Over the past two months the rumor mill has been pushing this last weekend hard as the one where a BIG Suprise could be in store for fans. The Rumor Mill has said that George Lucas himself might show up with Harrison Ford as part of the cross promotion for the Indiana Jones movie. Of course each year it is suggested that the man in Plaid is going to make an appearance. That so far has turned out to be nothing. During weekend 1, it had been suggested that Mark Hamill was seen at one of the Disney property Hotels. Again nothing.
Some of the merchandise listed at StarWars.com that was missing from weekend #1 surfaced last week at Wicket's Warehouse. With some of the other items starting to sell off, weekend 4 offers the opportunity for merchandise buyers to get some great items for a discounted rate. If all follows previous history, by Sunday items at the Warehouse will be marked down bringing some of the Non Limited Edition items closer to a reasonable cost.
T-Shirts, apparrel and toysets will most likely have prices cut. Also look for posters and non limited edition pins. I can't speculate on any Limited Edition items other than to say I doubt you'll see much change there, but if you are a bargin Hunter, the time is now. Weekend 4 may not offer you the best chance for obtaining merchandise, but it offers the best value!
Anyone attending the first two weekends this year may have noticed this pink R2 unit among the merchandise available. For anyone still looking forward to visiting Star Wars Weekends over these next two weekends I hope you take the time to look for it. The price for the Droid is $10 and for my money is one of the best bargins at weekends because it is more than just the item itself.
R2-KT is a special story and one that should have the attention of anyone in the Star Wars/Disney fan base. The droid is named to honor KATIE JOHNSON, a young girl who sadly died of brain cancer in 2005 at the age of seven. Katie was the daughter of Albin Johnson, the founder of the 501st Legion, the charitable costuming fan club that has divisions all over the world, making numerous appearances and marching in the SWW parades.
As many of you who have followed this site & Blog know, weekend #1 offered a chance to add to the Star Wars Weekends experience with the Matt and StudiosCentral.com . SWW already offers a great number of things to do, but the Dinner Party was a wonderful way to make up for those things that have fallen by the wayside in the past two years with the loss of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Star Wars Edition and the cancellation of the Adult Trivia. Disney goes to great pains to make this event great with the events and such that they do provide, and judging by the turnout over the first two weekends, SWW is alive and well even with some corners calling for change. read more »
The Toughest part of Star Wars Weekends 2008 has been the MUSTAFAR Heat. No real suprise there, so lets move on to the second most difficult thing, finding the characters throughout the park. After talking to many SWW veterans I found that I wasn’t alone. The Jedi members were moved from their location over by the smoking area at Tattoine Traders back to the Indiana Jones Outpost by Echo Lake. Many people walked past this area all weekend long without knowing that this was the meet and greet area for the Jedi, Mace, Shak Ti, Anakin, etc. I figured it out early but have to admit with everything going on, I never got back that far. There seemed to always be an obligation of some sort deeper in the park. read more »
I just got an email from my wife which states quite simply "We are going to Disney World!!!" The whole family is pretty excited now. We fly out tonight and had to pack everything last night (ok the wife was packed a few days ago), so now we are just chomping at the bit to get through the work day and get to the airport.
The packing has been fun and chaotic all at once. We keep changing our minds on what we are bringing and finding certain items has occassionally been a problem. Just the other day there was mass panic when I couldn't find my Darth Vader towel! Hey, what can I say, I like it and I wasn't leaving for Star Wars Weekends without it! Luckily after about an hour, in which I enlisted my wifes help I did find it. AHH, balance in the Force once again.
Many people (myself included) have been voicing their opinions on the lack of information being shared about the merchandise (things are leaking out SLOWLY) and special events being planned for Star Wars Weekends this year. There is no question that I’d be happier with more information and it may suddenly come here in the next few days. That said I’ve seen in some corners where people are questioning how good this SWW event will be. I can’t give you any more information than what is already out there, but I think what you can work with is the history of the event coupled with what we know. read more »
One of the coolest things your child can do at Star Wars Weekends is the Jedi Training Academy. Now this used to exclusively happen only during SWW, but is now a regular event at the Disney Hollywood Studios. Still, in this setting, unless your child is a regular Disney Visitor, I promise that this is one of the things your child is going to want to do most. Once the schedule is out, we will see for sure, but there are usually about 5 sessions daily where the children have the opportunity to be selected for the Academy.
It has been said here many times that Star Wars Weekends is hot, MUSTAFAR HOT. Still one of the things I've come to love most about being there is how the fans come out in their own costumes to support and be a part of the event. Costuming doesn't really get you any extra privileges beyond anyone else, but it doesn't hurt when you are being selected for an event or for that special picture with the other characters either. Over the years I've seen some wild costumes. Of course you can't begin this without tipping the hat to the 501st and the job they do replicating Imperial Costumes. They are truly the best and their pictures are easy to find all over the web. Youtube is a good way to see some of the costumes shown off in the Parade. read more »
